The general case, not just today
Is Matterhorn Glacier Paradise worth it in cloudy or bad weather?
Consider it for the Glacier Palace as well as the panorama, but do not buy the ascent on the assumption that a very high station must be above all cloud.
The Glacier Palace gives this excursion indoor interest when the viewing platform is clouded in. Decide whether that is enough for your budget before going, and check attraction access separately from cable-car service. A high station can still be inside a deep cloud layer.
Zermatt and the summit are different forecast locations. Grey conditions in the village do not rule out a clear top, and sunshine in the village does not establish a clear summit. Compare summit forecasts and confidence rather than choosing a Zermatt excursion by height alone.
